Mathematics

The department trains mathematics teachers and provides professional support to pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers.
The department houses the Open Distance e-learning (ODeL Mathematics) bachelor of Education program run by University of Zimbabwe.
The department organizes in-service activities and workshops in Mathematics for secondary school teachers.
The department strives to produce quality, reflective and STEM-oriented secondary school mathematics teachers in the country

Mission

To produce competent , reflective and STEM-oriented Mathematics teachers for the lower, middle and upper secondary schools in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Vision

A leader in the development of competitive secondary education mathematics teachers in the country and the SADC region at diploma level.

Entry Requirements

5’O’ Level passes, including Mathematics and English Language
At least 2 ‘A’ level passes including Mathematics.

Duration

Two years full time( including two terms teaching practice)

ODeL B.Ed. PROGRAMME (U.Z)

This is a program for University of Zimbabwe run by Department of Science and Mathematics Education and housed at Hillside Teacher’s College.

Entry Requirements

5 O-Levels passes including Mathematics and English plus two A-level Sciences.

Duration

Two years for post diploma students
Three years for post A-level students.
